Its popular or highly rated yeah. it doesn’t mean Japan thinks it’s the best either. They take that stuff really seriously
I like (old) detective Conan and it was one of the earlier anime’s when it came to the absurd number of collaborations they’d do with Like McDonald’s and such. It was part of why I hated what it became, which was 10x more of a neutered kids show.
N Japan is the kinda place where a 3/5 restaurant is pretty dang good according to citizens. The bar is high for a lot of stuff

i am just a fan of detective fiction slop, i also like lupin the iiird. Old detective conan was nuts compared to the modern stuff where its mostly kidnapping or jewel heists
