Unfortunately since the last thread we’ve lost much of our Ivy League pedigree. The numbers, quite frankly, are disappointing here
Agreed
Luckily we do have some grad schoolers in the pipeline so it’s definitely something we’ve been giving some thought to
Yeah
This one is interesting.
The bottom one is the result of the top and middle one where you erase overlaps
that is fun
this thread reminds me that i should be spending more time on puzzles
correct answer is top middle i believe
bottom middle is the big brian answer
It’s actually the same subtraction/addition problem left to right as it is top to bottom
I feel this test isn’t particularly strong as it is often repeating the same trick (in this case, visual subtraction or whatever) over and over and you just have to look at the shapes and see if they fit the patterns you’ve seen before
Yea some of these takes a long time for me to figure out. I ran out of time when I was around 60% finished with the test and jammed in answers for the rest, so that put my IQ @ 125.
I mean, I guess pattern recognition is a part of IQ, but it’s also something you can train for. In theory, ‘training’ to find the correct answer to raise your IQ on a test doesn’t necessarily mean you’re smarter, unless the argument is that only a person with a higher IQ would do such a thing.
I’ve always been really slow though, at everything. My reaction time is really bad, and I don’t work well in situations where I’m always caught unprepared.
I agree - I think one of the highest determinants of scoring high on an online iq test is having done online IQ tests before
Actually, I take back what I said, the fact that it’s all patterns means that it’s a universal test that any language can take. I like it, and in theory you don’t necessarily have to understand symbols or math to take this test. Someone with 0 education could, in theory do very well because the playing field is even for the most part.
Yea, good catch LMFAO. My brain always defaults to sequences then series when looking for patterns.
Doing the whole ‘add subtract’ is only something I even begin to consider when I’ve been looking at something for like 10 minutes and can’t figure it out
I believe that scoring high on an IQ test at a young age has the risk of imbuing hubris in a kid that could potentially ruin them for the rest of their life or at the very least have a huge negative impact in how they integrate socially and emotionally with others.
I scored 179 on an official IQ test when I was like 8. My parents went around and literally told everyone they could about it, I’m sure people thought I would be studying at Harvard at the age of 13 and look at me now, shitposting at a dota forum while working an uninspiring job.
Makes me kind of sad thinking about that actually
Nice
