The way I see it, the leader knows who is publicly aligned with them so there should be no case where a mod-error occurs because if a player secretly defected, the host shouldn't help the leader by telling him that player is no longer on his side. Or whatever...

There's a difference between a standard game and a lazy one. Most games I host/suggest are actually fairly standard mechanically, but picking "new player tutorial mafia" or "random setup generator mafia" is just lazy and uninteresting.
We have played enough boring games that always end in random dicerolls. We can do better.
