My perception of the word gossip always involved that it's done in private or behind someone's back. Maybe I'm wrong.

True, I don't really disageee and as someone who offers criticism to friends to try and help them it's hard for me to fault that. But I think this thread might not be counter intuitive to the goal
Yeah just talking about others when they aren't around. I'd still consider it gossiping after they introduce themselves into the Convo, and especially if they leave and the conversation continues about them anyways.
