Locke and Key Mafia [Day 2]

Honestly it could just be a game mechanic. You never know with this crazy host hahaha. His games are always a blast and honestly I wouldn't wish for anything else with this crasy guy. His games are always unique and special forever.

No I mean private browser.

Beats Nightless Esoterism: A Goy Production imo, even if it's not hosted nearly as well.

(not that those games aren't creative and based)

I missed kai mafia? fuuuuuuck

Yeah this is true so it's not nma.

@lynch bazingaboy

@mafiabot lynch Bazingaboy

What role were you? If you're mafia then you win, if not then the game still isn't over.

@big_ass

@bazingaboy has been lynched. He was an Ant

GAME END

The idea of the setup was to have everybody be VT/vanilla maf with powers conferred by items which were transferable and multi-use. The items were supposed to be relatively low-impact so that they could be used frequently to spice up the game (most were multi-use).

The bit about items being independent of the user was that items remain in the game when somebody dies - I was hoping somebody would think to steal Osiris's key from his body after he died, but would've also allowed somebody to get it in another way if they came up with something creative.

Benny's win condition was to hold all the keys at the end of the game. This was intended to create a game environment where people were asking each other for keys, trying to get each others' keys etc. He didn't really play so that element was missing a bit. He held all keys at the end of game (NMA gave them to him) except Osiris's key, which I think they did not realize still existed, and the host key which I mentioned (mostly as a joke) in the GY. I think it would've been funny to steal and use that but it was an afterthought and wouldn't have counted against his win condition.

Keys:

I had a set of keys I wanted to give out day 1 and a second set for day 2. These day 1 keys were random rolled - the interaction with the game world was for flavor and was intended to have only minimal game impact. However, if you rolled a key you would only find it on entering the thread - this made it fun because some people were interacting with the game world so I could say: While Searching The Kitchen You Found A Key.

Heart Key / Caduceus: Lovers. User & target become lovers. Found by Osiris and used on Matticus

Moon Key: Target can post at night. Found by Benny and used on ■■■.

Eye Key: Investigative - user learns how many keys target holds. Found by ■■■ and given to NMA.

Bear Claw Key: Turns target into an animal chosen by user. Found by Krazy. This was the troll key of the day. It was meant to be entirely for flavor and have no impact but because I thought it was funny Krazy Kat was talking about the Cow from Wild West Mafia, I would've treated it as a RB if he thought to use it that way (Cows cannot use Keys because they do not have hands).

From these I would change the Lover Key to "you are in a private chat with the person" (no shared death). Matticus was very frustrated about the lover key and thought it was bad for balance. Actually everybody in the private chats was mad at me as JCrispy also felt he had been done dirty with the no-lynch at EOD (but this was an impossible situation for me where somebody was always going to be mad - if I decide to count the vote, I am now deciding NMA should die, which he could be rightfully mad about because it is not what the mafia bot said)

The book was intended to give people an idea what items were in the game Day 1 (and potentially more info on the items if you turned the page). You were supposed to find it by exploring the house. You were not supposed to cum on it.

You guys played well day 1 and I had fun hosting the day. People engaged pretty well with the completely novel setup & in particular I remember Matty playing solid town. The one thing I noticed was that in the confusion of the crazy setup it was very easy for scum to sit back and play low-key without attracting too much notice. This will probably be the thing I attempt to solve for in my next setup (all of my setups are meant to address some particular gameplay element we don't want to reward - Wild West, for example, had a ton of vigi power because people would play like scum as town and get townread for it at the time)

NMA's strange play Day 1 was a reference (an homage perhaps) to his last game where I posted a bunch of massive posts solving the setup in mafia chat and then went to the game thread and posted "I don't understand the setup" all day. In both cases it worked (never scumread for this) and was a great joke.

It was interesting to see how people interacted with the keys differently based on their past experiences in setups with me. Benny immediately tested his key on ■■■, probably thinking it would do something stupid to the target. ■■■, on the other hand, wouldn't use his key at all, immediately giving it away to NMA (assuming it would do something stupid to the user - he is a past Furry Package victim). Krazy seemed to be saving his key for a crucial moment (the way you would've treated a power-up in Wild West Mafia). And Osiris and Matty used their key to cry about the setup.

Day 2:
Nmagane was the first to realize keys were multi-use (potentially due to host error - he said "Use on X and then use on Y if X fails" and I gave him investigation results for both). He then used it to find all keyholders going into day 2.

I was aware day 2 would be lylo so gave the day 2 keys to people based on what would be most interesting. I also was convinced by Matticus that I had completely fucked the game for town so I did bias/set it up to go to final 3 (where they have a chance) instead of just ending there.

Skull Key: Target granted Medium powers. Given to Bazingaboy. This is of course a troll because it looks like a vigi key. I think he immediately used it on ■■■, which was intended - if he thought it was vigi he would be aware it could immediately win him the game.

Flame Key: Single-use vigi + clean kill (janitor). The only single-use key in the game. Found by ■■■, stolen by nma, used to kill Krazy (scum). The key burned up after use.

Winged Key: Allows the user to steal keys from others. This would've gone to benny and would've been more fun in a slower game where just stealing people's keys could get you lynched. NMA received it and used it to unleash his Day of Keys on everyone.

In the end I think NMA did actually understand the setup and was the MVP. It was very fun to watch him work out what was going on, test keys, figure out how to use them to influence the game and then unleash the chaos on the thread.

In the end it was a F3 with 1t/1m/3p which I think could've gone either way. Since Krazy was Janitored the game was up in the air from a host perspective. I think he did slip and basically claim maf in the GY and bazinga also has an argument that benny won't vote against NMA but idk if it's true. Really it came down to how people could towntell in novel/ridiculous situations which I think is actually a hard thing for non-town to manage.

In all I had fun hosting the setup and I thank you all for playing. As a final note I will say you do not actually have to watch Locke and Key - it is not that good.

One of the worst mafia games I've ever had the misfortune of playing.
