@slowdive after many years of deliberation i have decided. MBV(2013) is the best shoegaze album.

its the one i keep going back to at the very least.

It's so good, I loved hearing them play some of those songs when I saw them live. It's like the guitars are smashing you in the face it's amazing.

Loveless will probably always be my favorite because of memories I hold

Loveless is really good too! until super recently i’d have said it was the best. (it probably still is), but the last few years i dont go back to that one nearly as much.

confession: when i was in high school, i pretended that Isn’t Anything was my favorite album of theres. surely just to be unique. its the wrong answer.

It’s so good though lmao, I had a period early on where I listened to isn’t anything about as much as the other records, funnily enough. I think this is around the very first time I started driving my car to meet girls in other towns and playing less dota, so I made a lot of memories (I do really miss that time a lot, where you have no responsibilities and school is done). Somewhere around that time Loveless got stuck in one of the cd players in my taurus.

Isn’t anything is really Punky and dirty and rough, it’s fantastic. and you can hear on the 4 eps and this record how close they are to The Sound

I am partial to floral green, and i think a lot about that tweet where someone said they like to upset people by calling the genre shoegazi

im actually not familiar, ill have to listen to it.

Understandable, its not like pure shoegaze but i do like me some titlefight.
Hyperview is probably more gaze-y.
Hmm i also like jar by superheaven.

this is my favorite title fight song

What would bein the running for a top 10 emo albums poll. We could do a gigantic one and see the cumulative top 10 if we have enough m submissions and I’d do 10

Antlers hospice
Talon of the hawk
Foxing the albatross
La dispute somewhere at the bottom
Snowing fuck your emotional bullshit
From under the cork tree fob
American football
Nothing feels good promise ring

Actually that’s all I got for now maybe

Snowing is so good lol, actually the best. John Golm (? i think thats his last name) just came out with a solo album last year, it was really good. I’ll post the single from it

edit: john galm is/was the frontman for snowing

Mineral have a spot on the top 10 emo records list, they’re suspiciously missing from this thread. Hard to glaze over them in that conversation. Idk if it’s lp1 or 2 but they were the best. (1996, 1998, essential)

Empire! Empire! get a spot for the 2011 record What It Takes To Move Forward (2011, essential listening)

Brave Little Abacus should get 2 spots if it were a fair world, but I will have to give it to Just Got Back From The Discomfort… as one of the best emo albums ever, and total essential listening. (2009? essential)

I Hate Myself get a spot for the album Ten Songs (2000, essential listening)

Snowing get their well deserved spot for I could do whatever I wanted if i wanted and other two releases (~2011, essential)

Merchant Ships get glossed over a lot sadly. They earn a top 10 spot for Shipsography and For Cameron which are pretty legendary (september 9, 2001. gary and i were skating at a hospital on top of a huge hill overlooking a valley… etc) —- 2010, ESSENTIAL listening just like everything else here so why am i marking it essential

the appleseed cast deserve top 10 for both the end of ring wars and the very forward thinking Low level owl series which combined elements of post-rock with their own blend of emo. (1998, ~2000? essential)

American football get a top 10 spot of course, for lp1 (essential, you know when this was released)

I only have 2 spots left so this is getting tough. I think Thursday get a spot for full collapse (2001)

Everyone Asked About You get a very well deserved spot despite being on the edge of being ““emo””, they are still one of the best in this list. their discography is out under the name “Paper Airplanes Paper Hearts” (this release combines the self titled ep, Let’s Be Enemies album, and their old singles into a compilation)
