Yeah I’ve heard of this with child predators and I feel it’s really under-studied

I wonder if abusing someone themselves is a way for them to feel they’ve regained power over themselves and their sexuality

If you look into it that's basically the idea. There can be additional factors but its all about feeling empowered.

Because understanding why it happens in the first place is the only way to prevent it from happening altogether

That’s exactly what’s in play. Not to humanize rapists but I feel that most cases wouldn’t have happened if earlier perpetrators were exposed and punished

Ya but society doesn’t give a flying fuck about criminals. They’re considered dirty.

That’s also changing. I feel like less people are stigmatized for being in jail on drug charges but more people are being stigmatized for abuse cases (as they should)

I think out of everyone on this site I am probably the person who has most intimately known the most people who have been victims of sexual violence and I’m one of the people whose lives has been most affected by it

Though of course I don’t know any of your lives and I wouldn’t want to minimize any of your suffering - I’m sure there is someone out there who was raped and is bottling it up and doesn’t want to talk about it here.

But I think you guys should understand this isn’t a topic I just randomly heard about and decided to form and spew opinions about. It’s definitely something I’ve given a lot of thought to.

Hope this doesn’t open a big can of worms, but it’s because white people are starting to care about other white people being involved in the abuse of illegal substances.

Doesn’t help people understand why sexual abusers do what they do.

I’ve met a lot of survivors and have discussed with them in group therapy but I would not say I intimately know anyone with that issue. Seems like a conflict of interest or exploitation at that point

I think this is maybe true in the case of child sex predators but in the case of adult-on-adult rape I don’t believe these are all people who have been abused or are trying to regain control of their lives

I honestly believe some of these people delude themselves. Like tell themselves they are doing an OK thing. And I want to understand that. I want to understand why they don’t come forward and say “Fuck, I did something fucked up” the way victims are coming forward and saying “I was fucked.” I know that’s a ridiculous proposition but don’t you feel if you had done something like this you would eventually realize it was wrong and it would weigh on you for the rest of your life?

That’s true. The opioid crisis is always framed with rust belt whites when it has hurt marginalized communities the most. It just kills a lot of suburban kids too

No one listens to the people who push drugs anyways because why would you listen to a dirty drug dealer.
Besides drug use is self inflicted.

You’re just baiting now right

Better? I assume it was the part about drug dealers using drugs as a source of income.

Drug dealers and gangs make virtually no money compared to the ecosystem surrounding criminalizing them

In Chicago there were only a few gangs who were large enough to barter with each other and the police. Then the CPD thought they were too influential so they Balkanized them and made the city a lot shittier in the process.

Chicago didn’t even have a gun ban until Black panthers started legally owning them lol

That sucks

Good kid tho

He also had like 6 other traumas in his life in addition to that it was insane
