what do they accept as a higher power?
Literally anything you want dude, I’m not even joking you could have a Christmas tree as your higher power if you want. It is not strictly god or Jesus in the Christian sense
I like how when you talked about the positives of AA absolutely none of it involved forcing people to accept they are powerless and surrender to a higher power
almost as if that part of it should be optional and isn’t that helpful
religious guidance should be offered to those who want it not forced upon everyone who had no choice but to go along with it because they know they need help
What do you even think “religious guidance” is in this circumstance, it’s more of a loosely spiritual thing and more revolves around accepting something out there is more powerful than you, and will be there for you if you accept the help and do the work required

Well it’s not, because bargaining and working around things your entire life got you to become an alcoholic and landed you in AA in the first place right? So why don’t you just take some direction and put some trust into someone who is trying to help you, for free, for the first time in your life
my friend said different but he used to be involved in the church and had a falling out. said he got a lot of pressure to rejoin the flock but just his anecdote
