LOST is an allegory for how strangers can form communities through shared trauma and throughout the show you constantly see a revolving door of characters some recurring, some never returning, and some trying to never return only to be dragged back in against their will, or sometimes willingly because the island gave them an escape from their droll lives and a semblance of meaning, very much like the context of this forum.
