Much harder to sell your conflict as a holy war if your primary opposition is one of the more secular coalitions within the region. I'm sure that has nothing to do with the material support offered throughout the years.

Israel has the most expensive and talented PR team in the world. This isn’t some exaggeration or something. There is a reason a shit-ton of people believed, and still believe, the total lies that were put forth. They’ve been doing it forever too. They’re professionals; we were supposed to believe what they say.
