Idk if it’s wrong but its def a lazy truth. Like the economy and recession are 100% gonna happen, human nature is awful and violence will continue. So it is defeatist to die on those hills and insist nothing will change for good. It’s definitely better to stand up for what’s right and stake yourself in the conversation than to relegate yourself to a simple viewer of politics and sharer of eventual truths. Just for improving your world view and overall nuance over big vague things
That said I will continue to say that Trump is slowly choking out our nations total ability to bounce back in the future and I will fight on that eventual truth and bring it up in an annoying interval when I am reminded of it (like everyone else who really Cares I guess)
I can see how someone who believes you should swim downstream instead of up would espouse that. If anything I feel like what they’re saying is a significant argument because another real good way to help others (in this era of growing confusion) is to do your best to understand difficult truths and ultimately share them with the people you care about so they can do that too

If you live in a world where instead of that you just add to the noise and confusion and rely on social diffusion to carry things to term, you are not doing the service to the people around you that you think you are doing. Doing the right thing should probably be more difficult, and involve more leading and less risk aversion than the convenient safe plays.

You can tell people your truth but if they don't see it then it is a waste of time. Only once they feel the same pain you see and describe will they understand by linking the words to the reality and finally agree. Some people don't understand through words because they lack imagination or experience and can only learn by going through the pain.
It's very hard to change a person's perspective when there is no will to do so and in fact their ego fights against it too.
It’s not a waste because the very act is itself an art, one that can always be improved and exercised through a muscle that needs more nourishment than atrophification. Of course you can’t reach everyone and you shouldn’t get too caught up in not being able to. But if you consider you can’t reach everyone, and choose to quit attempting to reach more as a whole, you can’t ever say you put in as much effort or deserve as much consideration as the people who didn’t quit. Not that I believe the above is particularly rational either, but it is a part of my “people can always be better and should strive to be to actually do more for others like they signal they want to” garbage shtick

Agree with helping your people do better. When I said it is a waste of time to try to change people and their beliefs I meant more in the context of the larger trends happening right now in the country like these far fight and far left wings forming and building momentum. There are forces of nature which are causing them to crystalize and manifest, you can't stop it, you might be able to stop your friends and family just like you might be able to save a bird nest in a burning forest but the macro trend of the forest burning down and many nests burning to ash cannot be stopped but you can try and it will only result in yourself being burned and failing, possibly ending in self destruction
