I dont even have the subwoofer i pretty much exclusively use my headphones
the subwoofer will give you better output to your headphones you just plug them directly into the speaker (assuming you have the input i do)
i think you can upgrade to mine w subwoofer for almost no money considering ive had these things for like atleast a decade
