<01:07:03> "[TeamSpeakUser] LandscapeEngineer": you havent read the literature
<01:07:12> "[TeamSpeakUser] LandscapeEngineer": its directly irrelevant
<01:07:29> "[TeamSpeakUser] LandscapeEngineer": do you know who plato even is
<01:08:46> "[TeamSpeakUser] LandscapeEngineer": how could someone so ugly (nmagane) know anything about aesthetics
Aesthetics is when you're 7 feet tall and shaped like an alien and also have to wear long sleeves if you go out in the sun (like an alien)
the real aesthetic is having jcrispy in your teamspeak
its my teamspeak
the real aesthetic is being in jcrispy's teamspeak
Of course you're confused about what art is, because everyone wants to be an artist. On games there are many "art" positions whose occupants are too proud to admit that they are simply builders and nail-drivers.
I'm aware that I'm being goaded into a rehashed conversation about the meaning of art, but art should be considered something that sets itself apart, is unique, has lasting value, describes the collective human soul (Tolstoy apparently), etc.
wasn't trying to goad was just curious on your thoughts
I think it's simpler than that, rather than trying to define "art" we can just say the vast majority of people's jobs are paint-by-numbers bs and we tack on the "artist" "engineer" titles to pad our egos
When people write out these sob story posts it comes across a little gross because they are failing to recognize (or taking advantage of the fact) that they are being pandered to with this stuff. It isn't real.
It's like when you see people who do two hours of "work" a day (and the work is sitting at a computer answering emails or running an unnecessary meeting) start a "Google Workers' Union" or something. Like you aren't actually a "worker," these are myths that we tell each other to pretend what we do has meaning, you can be indulged up to a certain point but don't push it.
Art isnt real. It exists only for humans to feel special
The only art is efficiency
you bought a sweatshirt with c span on it
Yeah because ots funny
No, you're right right, it is simpler than that. Ultimately art just needs to feel true -- attempting to rationalize things has always been a futile afterthought.
I think even beyond that - art has a "feel." We instinctively know if something is art and the layer of words ("rationalizations" as you call it - but to me, the very existence of language itself) we apply on top in an attempt to communicate that instinct in fact obfuscates it (this is why people who spend too much time on things like "debate" often have the worst instincts)
We know these people are not "artists" "engineers" without talking about it - it is an instinctive thing. Their sob story twitlongers offend us because they are ultimately an act of self-deception - an attempt to pull the wool over our eyes (and, or more importantly, their own) using a series of linguistic tricks, each more warped than the last but none more so than the psyche of their depraved author
Your typical "Games Artist" is a lunatic who, wearing a fuzzy wool cap pulled down over his eyes, runs about the interior courtyard of your local Corporate Games Studio bumping into the glass (like a bug in a terrarium) shouting: Witness Me, an Artist!
