the dialogue of true detective is unbelievably reddit and the story makes zero sense
what saves this show? two white guys (not loud, dumb clowns) in cool looking clothes, in the south. there's no loud noises.

The story of true detective is the story of real life and they took that guy off the writing team for season 2 so he wouldn't tell more of it
Dialogue literally doesn't matter at all - it's about the feel of the show and how it all comes together as a complete picture. Obviously if you take some reddit atheist dialogue out of context it looks stupid. but in the context of the whole show it is building to a point/serves a purpose

The reason True Detective wouldn't work in 2023 is because nothing/nobody takes itself that serious anymore.
