Originally this game was going to take place with 9 unique and named characters. Each character would have a short description and on signing you would have to also rank order which guy you'd like to be. The problem is that every role mechanic was going to be a secret and only hinted at with the character description so in the context of mafia it would be really hard to make calls when the uncertainty is maxed out (true diceroll). Ropeman for example was actually going to have a secret win condition: when you convince someone to assist you in climbing the rope out of the castle you betray and kill him while gaining a win. The alchemist was going to have a win condition where if he slept in a room alone for 3 days in a row he finished concocting a garlic+mustard gas bomb and everyone dies except for him. Nyte was going to be able to know the full role description of anyone she slept with.
The list goes on but it's too unfair to have unknown role mechanics.
