That is a good point. I didn't think Ukraine would be invaded either and then I thought Ukraine would collapse in 3 days.
At least they're now in the position where they can effectively cease to exist as a nation though.
To be fair I was given direct orders from the kremlin to deny the possibility of invasion until it actually happened

Basically they need to give putin an out here where he can maintain power in Russia and part of that is allowing him to be able to distort the story for his own populace and present it as a win. Maybe it can be like the Cuban missile crisis where they agreed behind closed doors to remove nuclear bases from Turkey but there needs to be an out here
