Or markets fall further and maybe he retracts in May but I think within 6 months they will roll back the tarrifs.
Or he will keep the tarrifs a year from now and we're in fucking full blown recession

Elon Musk and to a lesser extent big oil. Canada has millions of tonnes of lithium oxide. Greenland has billions of tonnes of rare earth elements, which are used both in battery manufacture and refining crude to gasoline
To an even lesser, but still meaningful, extent both also have oil.

I get the why, like yea Greenland is a nice piece of land but I don't think it's coming from Elon. He mentioned buying Greenland in his first term before him and Elon shipped it. It could be big oil, but I think it's someone specific who is laying low.
Elon was a lib in trump's first term, he didn't enjoy the preferential treatment he does now. Now more of those resources would be allocated to his needs.
All of the ongoing sodium-ion battery research at my institution has now lost funding. That's not a coincidence.
