Yes, the government is completely filled with makework jobs of people who, if fired, would be unable to find productive employment in the private sector, but at the same time if you fired them all and if they no longer did nothing (at best, they're likely making things worse) in their makework jobs, the economy would screech to a halt and whereupon it would implode.

Take this website for instance: I am the main economic driver of conversation of this website, big_ass is probably #2, and there's a few others. Let's say we remove the useless people who actively make my job harder (nyte, LBJ) -- this website would effectively cease to function. It's fair to say the website would collapse and no conversation would happen at all.
