Hakone was cool we stayed at this like Japanese resort type thing that had like the sulfur hot bath whatever they’re called built in the rooms and it had been built in like the 1600s and shit
Also I did 3 days in South Korea before heading back and I think South Korea is more fun and would be more fun for the average American than Japan

You're not the first person I've heard say that. Koreans generally speak more English too. But the housing offered to teachers like me in Korea has a real bad reputation, and speaking Japanese kinda keeps me rooted here. I am not the nightlife kind of person anyway. I am quite happy just being in a normal small community with people raising families.
Living in a place long term I think I would rather live in Japan but strictly speaking to go on vacation which is more for having fun I think Korea is better. But yeah if you wanted to live in some place and even raise children or some shit Japan would be the move over Korea

It is much more intellectually honest and sound to look at Israel as another powerful state that will do awful shit with too much power and unfortunate political outcomes just like countless other states do.

I agree with what hubert doobert said in general but I feel like I wouldn't summarize it like that - I would say it's not about the nature of the state but about the nature of humans
humans are capable of great evil against one another and of rationalizing that evil, creating groups and alliances to enact it, basically all sorts of horrible group dynamics. I believe it starts with blinding yourself to the evil nature of an act (rather than recognizing and being honest about it) and usually proceeds with formation of in- and out-groups, then alienation of the outgroup and justification for evil
But there are actually a lot of ways humans convince themselves to do evil and not all of them are about ingroup outgroup. Hence the n plus one article I posted about frat boys raping each other
Actually my time on forums like this one is one of the most enlightening influences I've had on this front. Lord of the Flies is very, very accurate to human nature (not in a pessimistic way, there is a lot of good in human nature too) and I think everyone has a responsibility to themselves to do their own individual internal battle (jihad) with it
