Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations book commentary

so you're w illing to say that morality is built by "making sense" and biological factors?

no. making sense is just my own sentiment, nothing more.

Hbotz can’t even make an argument against god not existing other than “it doesn’t make sense”

why is your sentiment your own and different? what made your sentiment?

well its not like ive never looked at universalist stuff. it just doesnt make sense to me. so i cant internalize it.

What’s hard to understand about the existence of moral imperatives?

What if I'm not a universalist or relativist? Moral nihilism is really fucking convincing

biological and social factors. i am a nonreligious american. i like math and such. i read stuff by utilitarians but i am not motivated to be an actual utilitarian. my parents were not big on morality.

It’s not really interesting to opine on

they are not robust to attack. given a moral imperative, i can construct a situation where following it would be degenerate or i would be otherwise unwilling to follow the directive. also, it is disadvantageous in the sense that people without the moral imperative are more likely to achieve results i find favorable.

Maybe it's just because I really like epistemology, but I find it to be the far most interesting. Not to mention the most convincing because I've never found any argument towards the existence of moral facts to be very convincing.

maybe the favorability of result can be included in morality. but then its nearly the same as saying my current implicit morality rejects universal directives. which seems true.

.

Does you or anyone refusing to follow an imperative make it worthless or does it just make that person immoral?

what does that have to do with your sentiment?

I find it hard to believe that you’ve never felt x is more good than y

I have felt that, but I assign no truth-value to it.

sure you could assume some moral directives and categorize people as moral and immoral. but i think moralities where “too many” people are deemed immoral arent very useful, that is, moralities should be followable at least in principle. on this basis i dont like utilitarianism very much. but there are some people who claim to be utilitarians.

It could simply be the case that humanity is fucked.

these are various things that caused me to have the sentiments i do today.
