locals would handle any orphans around you can't babysit kids with military lol. most kids liked to hang out around us anyway because they liked it when we blew shit up. i did hear about some kids go through processing because someone thought they had a radio and optics didn't hear what happened to them though

yea you can't really have civvies around if there is active combat, it's sad but people who failed/refused to evacuate are caught in the middle and can easily be killed by either side. deliberate terror tactics are obviously another level but if you wage war as belligerently as the russians it's just part of the game
the US can't even handle the migrant problem: kids in cages, holding centers catching fire and their detainees being burned alive, children raping other children, all of this with specific services from the US government that are explicitly tasked with these problems. and the military is supposed to effectively run the same thing, during a hot war.
what the Russians should really be doing is putting all the Ukrainian children in one big pen PoW camp where they can rape each other (this system has to be spun up on demand) rather than offloading them to their already existing (likely terrible) social service system.
