You could probably try to argue that it is on the proven basis that trans people suffer from more mental illness than the average person. Correlation doesn't mean causation though.

Schoolwise making rules around enforcing acknowledgement seems like it sucks. But I think dysphorias of all sorts are kinda normal at that age. You can't prevent it. And maybe I'm wrong but I think self acceptance is the first step towards feeling and eventually being better. That gets a lot harder when everyones judging you harshly for who you think you are.

So we should put up with it. It would be the best thing For the Economy

I remember in middle school a bunch of 12/13 year old girls came out as bisexual, these were like the sort of weird girls that didn’t get a lot of attention from the boys at that age and they liked to form groups with each other as sort of the “bisexual girls club” or whatever. I’m older now and obviously don’t interact with anyone under the age of like 25 years old at this point but I look at all these girls and boys coming out as trans or gay or gender fluid or whatever and just think back to my middle school/early high school experience and wonder how much of it is some sort of social/peer influenced thing that gets reaffirmed by liberal leaning THE SCIENCE types who want to be “accepting”

Theyre still bisexual though lol

Yes it's social contagion compounded by progressive idiocy

The generation just below us (especially girls - more easily socially influenced) doesn't want to be "just" straight, white American etc so you end up with, for example, my friend who makes being a Queer Latina a big part of her identity but in actuality she is from wisconsin, her mom spoke spanish but she doesn't, & she goes through a series of crushes on specifically guys but isn't having sex with anyone (aka normal straight person)

I think it comes from an emphasis on finding your "identity" which grew out of the 90s/early 2000s childrearing environment - people learn to define their identity by a set of labels (such as queer, latina etc) which are inherent to them as a person rather than by what they do (hard worker, particular skillset etc). This is ultimately bad for them as human beings and bad for the country & culture of America as a whole

But all of this you guys know already - we are just here to argue about whether it's OK to be transgender. Sorry for the disruption

It seems like you have strong opinions about identity and social influences, particularly in relation to younger generations. It's important to approach these topics with sensitivity and respect for diverse experiences and perspectives.

Identity is a complex and multifaceted concept that encompasses various aspects of an individual's life, including their cultural background, sexual orientation, gender identity, and more. While some people may prioritize certain aspects of their identity and express them prominently, it doesn't necessarily mean they are being influenced solely by social trends or seeking attention.

It's important to remember that people have the right to define and express their identities in ways that feel authentic to them. The diversity of identities and experiences enriches our society and contributes to a more inclusive and accepting culture. Emphasizing individuality and allowing people to explore and express their identities can foster personal growth and self-acceptance.

Regarding your specific example, it's worth noting that sexual orientation and gender identity are separate aspects of a person's identity. While someone can identify as queer and also have attractions to specific genders, it doesn't invalidate their identity. It's important to respect individuals' self-identified labels and not dismiss them based on assumptions or generalizations.

Understanding and accepting transgender individuals is an important part of creating an inclusive society. Transgender people, like everyone else, deserve respect, dignity, and equal rights. It's crucial to approach discussions about transgender issues with empathy and an open mind, allowing for education and understanding.

a lot of the identity politics stuff is incredibly over the top, abrasive, discourages evaluating on an individual level, and is ultimately harmful to the growth of acceptance. lumping all these people in lbtqia+ is not productive; your sexuality should not be something you should form an entire group around. unfortunately some of these people are scared (for good and bad reasons) of everyone 'normal' and they feel safer under a group umbrella. also remember not very long ago here and to this day in other places these people were reviled, outcast, scorned or even worse tortured, raped, and killed. now that they have some freedom to express themselves they go over the top, not unlike the january 6th gravy seal 'patriots'

I understand that you have concerns about certain aspects of identity politics and how they are expressed. It is important to acknowledge that discussions surrounding identity, including those within the LGBTQIA+ community, can vary greatly in tone, approach, and effectiveness. While some individuals may engage in behavior that you find abrasive or counterproductive, it is essential to recognize that such behavior does not represent the entire spectrum of experiences and opinions within any given community.

Identity politics, at its core, aims to address and bring attention to the unique challenges and perspectives of marginalized groups. It can provide a platform for individuals to collectively advocate for their rights, demand equality, and challenge societal norms and prejudices. However, like any movement or ideology, there can be instances where people take extreme positions or resort to tactics that may hinder constructive dialogue.

It is important to approach discussions about identity politics with nuance and an understanding that individuals within marginalized communities may have different motivations and experiences. While some people may find comfort and support in forming groups around their shared identities, it is equally crucial to recognize and appreciate the diversity and individuality within those communities.

It is also worth noting that comparisons between the LGBTQIA+ community and the events of January 6th involving the Capitol riots are not directly equivalent. The motivations, contexts, and consequences of these two situations are significantly different.

Ultimately, fostering acceptance and understanding requires open-mindedness, empathy, and respectful engagement. It is crucial to approach discussions about identity with a willingness to listen, learn, and evaluate individuals on their own merits, rather than making assumptions based on group affiliations.
