seems like they were much more focused on training them to use next gen tanks and figured drones + nato satellites would be enough for intelligence + russian air can just be shot down without the need for fighter jets

these are pilots: they aren't going to be "trained" to use "next gen tanks" and die at the front within 3 days (that's for the poor bloke they kidnap in the street).
the US has no intention to give Ukraine weapons to actually win the war because the goal is to exhaust Russia with Ukrainian souls as cannon fodder.

I'm a fan of Robinson's book Topological Signal Processing which has interesting sensor fusion chapters.
I played with Dempster-Shafer theory after learning that Glenn Shafer was Vladimir Vovk's advisor (conformal prediction). F-35 does fusion via DST.
