What is NAMafia?

To begin, we must go back to a now-dead forum, Nadota. Nadota was once a great website where high-level gamers discussed dota and played mafia. As time went on, it became defunct and shitty like every other forum that isn't updated or cared for. It didn't help that DotA seemed to be on a continuous decline, or that the userbase of nadota proved largely to be aggressive, asocial and sometimes overtly sexual.

In 2017 it was acquired by a random guy who did not care for the people who visited the website, and apparently did not realize it was not meant to generate revenue. And so, earlier this year and without a word to anyone, he decided to pull the plug on it. It was a shame, because while the site wasn't active, it was still a place people went to engage in dota/random discussion and play mafia. A place that some had been visiting on a daily basis for a very long time, still engaging with old users and some new.

So, Now that it's gone I figure it would be nice to create a new and improved home for these old posters. One that isn't on vbulletin 4.2 and doesn't care about maximizing revenue and still has a dota chat. One that caters to it's mafia players and doesn't try to limit discussion on the basis that it might be too spicy for other posters too handle.

This is a Place

For new members who want to play Mafia: you can sign games in the mafia subforum. dont post in games you havent signed in. refer to the mafia subforum for more information on how you can play, or how to play if you don't know anything.

Please treat this as a discussion forum to be yourself in and engage in fun discussion with random interesting people. Other people posting here besides you are players — simply players in this big MMO we call life LMAO so don't take things too seriously because they're just playing around. And Remember -- have fun. And don't make messes for me to clean up.

Don't Ruin the Discussion

Dont post the information of other posters or players.

Don't spam for any reason, it takes away from the better posts. Unless the best posts are spam. Then your thread is bad.

Don't harass other people in a targeted manner. Obviously, some people don't get along with other people and that's fine. But don't follow them around, pooping up random threads with a quarrel no one cares about.

What is the NAMafia Tribunal?

NAMafia doesn't believe in turning away potential content contributors and game players. We have the most diverse set of anglosaxon posters around and we're proud of it, and that's why we're always looking for new posters.

However, it's not all smiles here on NAMafia. NAMafia believes in a Tribunal System -- one where people are systematically voted off the online island for ruining whatever experience others are getting out of this forum. Most Tribunals are not permanent, unless it's a special holiday. Please honor your tribunal if you are selected. more information will come later as we approach the next Tribunal.

Your Participation Counts

The conversations we have here set the tone for every new arrival. Help us influence the future of this community by choosing to engage in discussions that make this forum an interesting place to be — and avoiding those that do not.

Discourse provides tools that enable the community to collectively identify the best (and worst) contributions: bookmarks, likes, flags, replies, edits, and so forth. Use these tools to improve your own experience, and everyone else’s, too.

Let’s leave our community better than we found it.

If You See a Problem, Flag It

Moderators have special authority; they are responsible for this forum. But so are you. With your help, moderators can be community facilitators, not just janitors or police.

When you see bad behavior, don’t reply. It encourages the bad behavior by acknowledging it, consumes your energy, and wastes everyone’s time. Just flag it. If enough flags accrue, action will be taken, either automatically or by moderator intervention.

In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason at any time. Moderators do not preview new posts; the moderators and site operators take no responsibility for any content posted by the community.

Keep It Tidy

Make the effort to put things in the right place, so that we can spend more time discussing and less cleaning up. So:

  • Don’t start a topic in the wrong category.
  • Don’t post no-content replies unless they're quotevotes
  • Don’t divert a topic unless it's for the best
  • Don’t sign your posts — every post has your profile information attached to it.

Wanna spare people from having to read your quotevotes? Simply like the post. Great!
