Anti Trumpism general

imagine claiming words mean specific things

imagine words

That's true. The definition @insom quoted forgot the part about how it all revolves around absolute freedom of the market

yeah fuck the dictionary

Imagine claiming anything means anything. Derrida gang

im in general not a fan of debating what single words mean

i am a big fan of ad hoc contextualization and dealing with potential contradictions or unintended multiplicities as they come

?

I'll never vote for an Iraq war supporter.

like... when a word has an extra meaning that could apply in context and might be misinterpreted to but wasnt intended to

language is messy just deal with the issues as they come in conversation

Ah, I was interpreting multiplicity in a different philosophical context. I'm more a fan of not dealing with the potential contradictions, but using them to instead make arguments that are paradoxical

example?

Like any of Baudrillard. He makes claims that due to the nature of the Real and language living in the real of the Symbolic, contradictions are inherent and should just be embraced

yeah probably depends on what kind of contradictions are involved

my main point is, discussions on what widely used words like "liberal" "actually mean" when they really do just have a lot of uses and theyre used by different people in different ways... seem absurd. i see no reason to legitimize any one particular use over another, so long as people remember to contextualize.

and what really even is gained from insom or the rest of you being right here on the definition? (also everything else but thats another story)

Good shit

You shouldn't vote for a pedophile or someone who wrote the crime bill either

counterpoint: climate change

ok ok im sorry

i think the main contention was the insom thinks liberal is used as america uses it in most of the world, and as most of the world uses it in america.

Want to answer the question about how Biden's policy platform does anything about climate change?

no, i was arguing the opposite

that americans misuse the term and project that onto everyone else who speaks english, when NOBODY thinks of neoliberalism except americans when they hear the word liberal
