THIS IS WHY WE STAY STRAPPED. RATHER BE JUDGED BY TWELVE THAN CARRIED BY 6

Yes
Personally I don't feel any need to carry a gun to defend myself and I strongly doubt a lot of the "infringing my rights" people actually need a gun to defend themselves but at the end of the day that's a personal decision
You mean carry as in carry the gun in public or do you mean carry as in own a gun
Any of the above
when your momma crib get run up in or when they catch you lacking in the streets, you always gonna carry at least a knife and i rather carry the strap honestly but i dont want the legal trouble.
What?
I dont live in a place where they're going to "catch me in the streets" or run up on my crib and I'm also not a 90 lb woman
But I understand those things are not true for everyone and some people feel safer living where they do with a gun
I just think
- majority of ppl who have a gun for "self defense" will never get the opportunity to use it for that purpose
- if given the opportunity, majority would not use it well. People dont react well under pressure
- you're way more likely to hurt yourself or others by having something like that around
Lock your doors. Have an alarm system that beeps
Congrats, you'll never be stolen from
Try to not think of "defunding the police and military" as such a scary thing.
Education gets defunded all the time in the USA, for example.
Think of it as 'going to a level of spending that befits what should actually be spent'
And I absolutely still would like to have cops around, I do not want ghost busters. I just think American cops are extremely undertrained, underpaid, and when you do those two things you end up with a shitty workforce, which is what they are.
I would say that I don't even advocate for "defunding" of the police, but rather "re funding" or using the funds differently. Instead of extremely high tech militarisitic swat gear, I'd have the departments hire more psyciatrists to check in with officers and give them PTSD coaching (im assuming a lot of them have it, its a pretty horrible job in many ways), for example.
I'd spend the money on better training, and body cams. Body cams which must be on ALL the time, during the shift. I'd have a professional hired from an outside agency whose job it was to sit in a room full of screens and look at the body cames of every policeman on duty in real time. If it was a big force, it would be more than one person or even many people. They have the money. It can be done. Your govt. can afford it, trust me. These people would have the ability in real time to speak with officers about problematic behaviour and potential solutions, offer advice, coaching, spot mental health crises, etc.
Secondly, better understanding of mental illness, via training. how to identify between a person with violent intent and a person having a mental health episode
That type of thing
For military the money would be spent on a civillian oversight council with punitive powers to investigate sexual abuse allegations, because the military does a really awful job of doing this and many, many female forces members talk about being raped, sometimes gang raped. Almost nothing is ever done, ever.
this case in particular comes to mind
I'm sure I could think of a lot more things but honestly in the case of the military, it's a military, theres only so much other shit you can spend the money on. I probably would advocate for a defunding plan, slowly, over a 10 year period, with the money being put into community programs, job creation programs etc. for low income areas which are generally terrible to live in.
For example, Franklin. D. Roosevelt placed a big emphasis on these type of projects during the great depression. Public works projects which both created jobs, and made the communities better place. Funded by the govt.
Imagine this
You're attempting to steal something, when SUDDENLY A BLARING ALARM GOES OFF
what do u do
trump is not the cause or the problem but an effect or a symptom
however i still immediately start dissociating from reality whenever i'm reminded he is (still) the president of the USA, nothing less than quantum particle uncertainty can explain it to me - is the world crazy or me i'm not sure of
agree in both respects, however I feel the most immediate thing to be addressed is making sure he does not get re-elected. first things first. other problems can be tackled one by one after that, hopefully by a GOP who are at the very least willing to have good faith discussions about such issues.

All the US communists, socialists and anarchists I know boycott US elections except some who participate in local elections (mayors, aldermen and women, judges etc.)
The first one is a good essay by Lenin it's probably only a 15 minute read at most
bro cops are paid pretty good I think cops in LA start at like 60k a year
Well cop salaries tend to be correlated to cost of living
all these ■■■■■■■ saying “if u defund the police who will u call when crime happens to you??” Have never actually called the cops when a crime happens to them, the reality is u call the cops and they either show up 2 hours later to ask if you wanna file a police report and do nothing or show up, don’t catch anybody, and tell you that they’re likely never to catch the people who just robbed you and advise you to investigate the matter yourself and call a detective if you figure out who robbed you at gunpoint
big advocate for never calling the cops here
