The notion of some widespread murder of African Americans is wrong on a number of counts and I'm not going to elaborate because people who are smarter, more eloquent, and also blacker than me have laid it out in great detail already
i was going to agree, but i rescind. i don't think this directly goes against the idea i'm putting forth, which is that the bigger changes are almost always preceded by violence.
maybe you're arguing for change in an already progressive and peaceful community, that doesn't have oppressed minorities/peoples
when has that really existed?
then again, i distinctly recall you carrying a sentiment that oppressed people can live happy/healthy lives and therefor was it really wrong to be oppressive
Revolutions are great it’s usually the counter revolutions that fuck shit up
oh it's interesting that you mention this.
because i think that's literally what slowdive and insom and others have been saying when they talk about rioting.
i personally believe that all white americans should return to europe and leave america to the native americans. it's simply logical.
guess what, those people can also be wrong.
and i believe they are. and i've listened to the same people, and i took away something different from a lot of the conversation. i took away that it was IN FACT a problem, just a problem better addressed by reshaping infrastructure and culture rather than saying all cops are bad (though they all seemed to be in agreeance that police brutality was an issue without exception)
why don't we talk about jesus, huh?
Nyte would you like to convert to Hellenic traditional religion with me? You could be my personal Aphrodite
:bird: :bird:
well that didnt work
i miss my bird, too
isn’t that imperial japan? dont they just have a red dot
Insom I think you might find this interesting. It's the same discussion we had in this thread but it's spoken by people who are actually smart
I'm only about 10 mins in so only referring to first 10 mins. Will keep you guys updated
(the column they reference is here and after the first 10-20m you've heard most of the important stuff)
edit 2 pretty unimpressed with his column lol
I've really grown to like Glenn and John even though I don't agree with many things they say
They approach everything as basically principled people who want to figure out the truth and they appreciate where they differ and don't bother to dwell on it. It is almost like they respect each other for disagreeing and feeling strongly about those disagreements
Also for those offended by an hour long video there are timestamps in the description on the youtube website and those carry over into the video player if you are watching there
I think his point on White Fragility is pretty funny
I haven't had time to read the column yet
But definitely picked up on Robin Diangelo being like oddly subtly racist. Random anecdotes describing feeling scared around black people, etc.
She wrote a whole book to mindfuck herself out of the fact that she actually just looks at black people as lesser humans and that's wrong
rioting and looting works because the only way to enact actual change is to attack those that are in a position to make change (capital)
mlk jr and gandhi are all sunshine and rainbows guys, non-violent change is possible!
just totally ignoring everything happening in the background so history can fit your extremely limited view of how change happens. british left india in part due to gandhi, but also because the conditions they imposed on india reached the point that they were unsustainable due to high taxes and the violent suppression of riots. mlk jr without the organization of the bpp and similar groups organizing the black and sympathetic communities to demand change wouldn't have been able to do a thing.
there's no way petty looting adds any sort of meaningful pressure to the "people in charge", it'll just illegitimatize actual protesters
it does on a large scale
