the fact that it has caused a lot of misery for questionable benefit is already proof their competence is in question
but short term competence is a diff thing than long term competence
Well if you believe in Russian influence in US politics and culture I don’t think it’s that far fetched to believe the US is doing the same thing in other countries

They’re essentially a super power now and have political influence in most regions outside of the US and Europe
Politicians do tend to spin that as a bad thing but they were just given the invitation to build up their economy and global influence and ran with it, China is just doing what is best for China and it’s understandable
