i think the big issue is itâs taboo to look at manchu court people speaking and say âoh thatâs what chinese people speakâ when the kuomintang overthrew the qing and then the maoists (aka the will of every Han chinese person in their culturalese) overthrew the kuomintang. So they canât possibly hang on to any evidence that the Manchu Qing ran the show
But I agree the âmandarin chineseâ most people would use today refers to the common standard lingau franca dialect of the chinese language in use in the PRC
its just that a chinese guy proselytized and urged me to use âputonghuaâ instead since it doesnt offend people like him so I use that instead now.

He is a moron. There is no reason to say putonghua. Chinese people love to play victim. What is imperialist is not calling it mandarin. It would be more imperialist to demand for us to call it putonghua.

and the âimperialistâ charge is more a charge against the West. Not some questioning authority thing. Credit the west for dividing asia into a bunch of cultures that are super similar yet hate each other
