If I thought that was enough for a game I wouldn't be asking for design advice/feedback. Of course it's not good enough, it's just one step.
I don't want a 3x3 board, the majority of the demo is played on a 7x7 board with 5 colors right now.
I want to iteratively reach a design and concept to reach an 8x8 with 7 colors, we've talked about this so many times.

you ever think that a 10x10 board is FOUR TIMES the number of elements while 4 COLORS IS 2x THE NUMBER OF COLORS compared to 5x5 and 2????
Is it really that simple? How much does this change? What ratio is optimal? It's the same as the stack exchange question.
If you make a 16x16 board do you use 14 (7*2) colors or 15 (16-1)?

Plus another question is, doesn't having less colors on more space mean that it's more likely to get the dreaded long chains? Which was the only point I'm trying to make all along?

How am I the one making aggressive and dismissive remarks? It's genuinely just a math problem and we both reached the same conclusion, he kept perpetrating insults until we got to the point where I told him that the game is 7x7 with 5 colors and I want to make it better, which is exactly what we were talking about in the first place.
