It's different when I say
- "The problem with making a big board is that you have to make more tiles"
then he says
- "You're wrong"
and goes on to search it, google it, do whatever math and in the end says
- "You need more tiles but you can just have more tiles that do the same exact same things"
and I tell him that I want to work towards a more interesting game without making the player's decisions "walk 1 step forward" vs "walk 1 step forward", there has to be another way, and that my game right now is not an example of what I want it the final product to be.
It just makes him look silly when he says "You're wrong" then says
"youre actually right but uh you're also ■■■■■■■■ for not coming up with this proposed solution that I just came up with and don't actually know if its good or not"

There's a lot of work to be done. Next Demo will take a while, but Jones and I will persevere.

The core design conflicts lie here:
Jones is looking for a more arcade-y match-3 experience (akin to Mr.Driller), with a scoring system/leaderboard. Simpler systems, enemies being jewels on the board, etc. Decision making being the core bejeweled principles.
Matching combos, surviving as long as you can.
I am looking for a match-3 puzzle roguelike with pre-crafted content/encounters (akin to DCSS), where navigating the dungeon is a minor puzzle for each level, where the puzzle is how to move/swap tiles around the dungeon screen to get favorable encounters, 2 enemies at once can kill you easily. Reaching the end with as few mistakes as possible.
Mine is a slower and arguably more boring experience, but I feel like it has a lot more room for appealing design, especially if the puzzle aspect is fleshed out (right now it's non-existant).
