Curse of Strahd

AA walks over to Mukk and starts walking upstairs

rolls her eyes exasperatedly, then turns around and heads upstairs

Aren’t you going to apologize?

AA sighs heavily

“Alright, Brendan. I’m sorry, ok? Happy?”

I think he should not be allowed to travel with the party.

“Upstairs we go.”
Trailyn turns to head upstairs with the others.
“I believe we should act quickly and not give whatever is here to kill us more time to plan. Let us move as a group and make quick work of the demons at play.”

(Crawls up the stairs)

@dnd-party

Unlit oil lamps are mounted on the walls of this elegant hall. Hanging above the mantelpiece is a wood-framed portrait. You recognize the children in the portrait as, Rose and Thorn. Cradled in the father’s arms is a swaddled baby, which the mother regards with a hint of scorn.

Standing suits of armor flank wooden doors in the north and south walls. Each suit of armor clutches a spear and has a visored helm shaped like a wolf’s head. The doors are carved with dancing youths.

The red marble staircase that started on the first floor continues its upward spiral. A cold draft can be felt coming down the steps.

AA Inspects the room thoroughly, looking for hidden passages or other secrets

Wolf heads? Dancing youths? It appears we have found The Grove.

I cast blade ward and shield (wizard) on me & mukk.

I bet you feel right at home, Atholier.

Trailyn moves towards the door to the north and check it for anything that resembles a trap, if there are no traps I will slowly open the door peaking in, attempting to stay silent.

Thinking deeply on the books he has read in the past.

“Fellows, be careful of the armor stands near the walls. Vampire magic is able to animate humanoid figures to do their bidding, it could be a trap.”

Ted takes his lit torch and begins attempting to light the painting on the wall on fire.

@Athllorantier

AA Perception 21

Upon closer inspection the youths aren’t really dancing but fighting off swarms of bats.

@Trailyn

The door is unlocked and does not appear to be trapped.

Red velvet drapes cover the windows of this room. An exquisite mahogany desk and a matching high-back chair face the entrance and the fireplace, above which hangs a framed picture of a windmill perched atop a rocky crag. Situated in corners of the room are two overstuffed chairs. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves line the south wall. A rolling wooden ladder allows one to more easily reach the high shelves.

@Ted
The family portrait begins to burn.

Trailyn would like to look at the bookshelves to see if there is anything of interest or value.

@Trailyn

Trailyn Perception 23

The bookshelves hold hundreds of tomes covering a range of topics including history, warfare, and alchemy. There are also several shelves containing first-edition collected works of poetry and fiction, from famed poet Jonathon Cenarius.

As you move along the bookshelf, you see an odd looking red book with a blank spine on the east shelf.

Trailyn would like to take the red book and read it.

Mukk continues smashing the floor with his axe to try and lure any monsters out

@Ted

The family portrait, is fully engulfed and falls from its place on the wall.

@Mukk

Nothing happens at your continued smashing of the floor.

@Trailyn

As you go to pull out the book, you discover that it is actually a switch. The bookcase swings open.

This room contains bookshelves packed with tomes. A heavy wooden chest with clawed iron feet stands against the south wall, its lid half-closed. Sticking out of the chest is a skeleton in leather armor.

Clutched in the skeleton’s left hand is a letter.

A skeleton! Yoinks! Let’s get out of here!
