the game is not the point: it's an excuse to just verbally drivel constantly. it's a medium for them to just continuously chatter to each other.
this was the case when nmagane played WoW, when they played Rust, V-Rising, whatever.

It's the case with all players of all video games all the time. If it wasn't the case, they would simply play Tetris or Mario for every (even these have the social element of the scoreboard - when you play a lot, you are playing to be better than other people)
Point being all video gaming-based goal-setting/desire is sublimated desire for social well-being, which manifests in different people in various different ways.

Your urge to play social video games, ignore the other players, and then post about it on the forum is, at a base level, exactly the same as benny's urge to play social video games and ask the other team about philosophy or brendan and nma's urge to sit in a lane jerking each other off

It's a misdirected sublimation of your desire to pick up chicks - probably created out of a failure or perceived inability to do so directly
so in my most recent xcom long war 2 playthrough i beelined magnetic weapons after lasers but made a pit stop for workshop to speed up excavation. i was unable to equip all my squads but prioritized smg's for my technicals and rifles for my rangers, leaving my gunners and sharpshooters to manage my havens
