I work as an engineer for a utility doing data modeling/ collection of sensors out in the field it’s some cubicle job where you build a bunch of data sets for other engineers who then test those sets and give solutions to operators/people in the field to do their work, so I’m a back-end guy, it’s a fine job, pays well, benefits are solid and stuff, but I’m getting pretty bored.
My gf moved up to SJ to work for Apple and she’s barking at me to come follow her so I am applying for whatever I feel fits my skill set around that area.
@Derumination I wasn’t that smart, but I finished school. Truth is if you did something like the tensor flow crash course on google, completed a few projects on kaggle, and have a github with stuff uploaded on it that you want to show off + completed the leetcode challenge, yea you can definitely get hired at a decent start up or half-decent software company with no degree and no ‘official academic’ background however there is no way you’re going to get into a big 10, there is way too much competition, barring you being a savant/drop-out who has some ridiculous contribution/project to show off.
I’d agree with the statement that I’m not that smart nor do I work very hard which is why I am where I am. People that work really hard in my position tend to move off to management or start a business, people who are really smart tend to engage and do really cool projects/start a business.
I’m just a code monkey/gopher who basically lives a casual life, plans to retire, and then die. The end.
I mean, yea my WPM is alright, I think I can type something on the order of like maybe 120? It’s not crazy or anything, but you write a lot of code and you talk a lot on the computer through chat/skype with people and it’s just a natural development, I live and breath computers lol.
