yeah i want to say that technology/the internet has the capability to bridge those gaps but people would prefer safe spaces and redditesque echo chambers to anywhere where they gotta listen to someone on the opposing end of their ideologies

I think that profit is the main driver of those safe spaces
kind of yeah, but more indirect than that. social platforms make money off ads/data and focus on keeping user engagement, both of those things are what lead to you having a personalized echo chamber experience
