Character archetypes are better in 2. But the Cases are better in 1. I hear those opinions super often. So it depends what you're into.
All I know is I beat one pretty fast and I'm still only like 10% of the way through the 2nd game months after I started it. Just not nearly as engaging/mysterious as DR1 so far. I'll get around to beating it so I can play 3.
