Also, game reviewers know little about designing games, otherwise they'd be designing games rather than being paid small amounts of money to write/vlog about about them. The analogy to math proofs is hilarious.

However you are both wrong from the minute you started having a "discussion" about games. Games cannot be reviewed, rated, discussed, analyzed.

There is only one question: Is it fun? Are you having fun?

Most of the time the answer is no. Most games fucking suck. That is why people write 5000-word "reviews," make 4-hour videos, "discuss" on forums, argue in teamspeak. They are trying to justify to themselves the fact that they wasted 40 hours - nay, the majority of their adult life really - on something that wasn't fun or worthwhile. Facing their 30s, starting to go bald, spending endless hours on a meaningless task waiting for the moment where it all starts to make sense, starts to mean something, but it never comes so instead they resort to vitriolic internet arguments about "The Value Of Story In Video Games"

My writing tone is biased because there's no way anyone writing about themselves isn't - but the historical recount of events is certainly accurate.
