half baked proposition imo
"is that the attempted implementation in itself might be a catalyst for more dramatic fracturing"
this just seems like bad faith contrarianism
i dont think its bad faith i think legit, an attempted expansion of hate speech laws would be widely unpopular among the trumpist type and galvanize them in unpredictable ways
i mean its not bad faith
i could easily see that happening
idk why i typed "i dont think"
Maybe you should watch more American news if you don't understand our concern.
well I'm not really talking about only America, just in general
and yes I agree people being brainwashed from children that every single government policy of the US is infallible, correct, and cannot be changed under any circumstance is very problematic
this describes a very small part of the problem
a lot of the problematic people are anti government at this point
them siding with police and wanting their idea of law and order is like
pretty independent from their positions on the rest of the state's power
i agree, you are fucked
Example:
Any of the non-mainstream opinions on the trans epidemic
There is a lot of effort to say things like "this stuff is causing transgender people to kill themselves!!" and then get it banned as "hate speech"
In actuality it's mostly just sensible people saying "actually the trans epidemic tracks pretty well with other recent epidemics of teenage girls (anorexia/bulimia, cutting, dying hair black) and we should take that with a grain of salt rather than encouraging ppl to forge on into surgery etc. Also hormones / surgery are not actually 'reversible' as advertised but are actually life-changing decisions being made by 13-yr-old girls and activist doctors & this stuff is becoming quite insane"
this stuff exists elsewhere too you know, that's not banned by hatespeech laws
sounds like you legit are just boogeymanning them without understanding how they work
nobody thinks like this except dumb canadians on the internet opining on American politics
It's like when they give canadians internet access they hand out a little instruction booklet that says "americans are dumb as fuck, here's what they believe, make sure you are absolutely insufferable when lecturing them about it"
When China occupies the US after World War 3, they can add hatespeech laws to our new constitution. I would support it then.
and nobody believes hatespeech laws exist to stifle all discussion on all contentious topics except dumb americans like you
You're severely misinformed on the state of hate speech laws & basically every other political topic in the US
You're severely misinformed on what hate speech laws in other countries do & what I was referring to in support of them
Most of this thread u were debating from the position that they just didn't exist in the US or something
Now you're strawmanning me ("stifle all discussion") as if the example I gave isn't already happening, all over the US, right now
all I said is "absolutist free speech is flawed" and you and yns both freaked out so I think that speaks to you being brainwashed
And conservatives in Texas just banned about 150 books that have to do with any LGBT topic, slavery, native Americans, other things
insoms too far gone its over
