I told my husband I’m not having children while we live in the United States.
I made a snap decision today and texted my husband “I’m not having children in this country”. I’m shocked at my own belief in the absolute truth of this statement.
My husband and I have always planned to start trying for kids when I got out of grad school. He has always wanted kids, he talks about it nonstop. Names are picked out despite this being years on the horizon.
However, with the recent Roe V Wade news I had a serious conversation with him about how I absolutely will not feel comfortable becoming pregnant in the state we currently live in if the law is overturned. I had to explain a lot of things about why an abortion may become necessary despite us wanting kids. He was uneducated about many issues but was convinced by the end of the conversation. We even talked about him getting a vasectomy to supplement my birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancies in the meantime and he was onboard.
But then today happened and I realized with utter certainty that I am NOT going through what so many parents went through today. I can’t. It would break me. I’d rather have no children than lose a child in that way.
It breaks my heart because I LOVE this country with every fiber of my being. Not it’s history, or it’s laws, or it’s people. But I love the physical country itself. I’m a huge outdoors enthusiast and I love living in one of the most geographically diverse countries on the planet. I love the Pacific Northwest, I love the desert southwest, I love the plains, I love the south. I LOVE the bears and the wolves and the gators and the manitees and the bumble bees and the trout and the field mice and the marmots and the bald eagles and the burrowing owls. I’ve never once wanted to leave. “Fuck this, I’m moving to Canada” has been a running joke in my family for years but I’ve never participated. I’ve never wanted to leave. We can fix things, I thought. This is my home.
But I am absolutely adamant about this. Not only do I not want to lose a child in a school shooting, I do not want my child to ever have to participate in an active shooter drill. I won’t have it. We can stay and be childless, or we can leave. It breaks my heart.
But as we say, this is my body, my choice. This is my decision, and fuck every single rich white make that made it a necessity.
Edit since a lot of people seem to think my husband is the victim here: His response was “Cool, let’s get the fuck out of here.” Quickly followed by some texts about groceries. You know, because he’s an awesome person who is in love with me, not some deranged dingbat like some of you appear to be.
Would you want to have your child participate in a TransGay-Sex Drill? It's not much different than an Active shooter Drill when you think about it.

Can you link that please, I'd love to read it.
Also since you bring up the Bible; do you value the old testament more than the new one, or the other way around? They're clearly two very distinct works, I personally hold a lot more appreciation for the new testament - some of the jewish lore in the old testament might not be meant to be believed in by Jesus.

The story of Jesus is without a doubt the best part of the bible for me, especially the way it is told four times in a row.
The old testament, while I haven't fully read it (I know most of it though), seems to have much more room for interpretation.
