I find it hard to root for the protagonist when I don't really like him.

I mean the two are pretty different, I was going to say both are K-drama and share kdrama tropes but actually AiB is Japanese I believe
I would just watch 1 or 2 eps, decide if you like it. In both shows 1 or 2 eps is enough to get a general sense of it
Also I spoiled the whole plot of Alice In Borderland in my mafia game.
