Because it is intentionally ridiculously difficult migrate legally! Our administrative system encourages more off the grid illegal immigration. If everyone crossing the border knew they would be processed without a doubt, the situation would be fixed. But that means more brown people so Republicans can't support that.

It shouldn't be this hard to understand that the flow of people into the country will change dramatically if we make it possible to process everyone trying, keeping in mind that MANY of them will be deterred if they know they will be processed.
Yea many of them will be deterred many more will be denied, and many many more will simply come over on temporary work visas for seasonal work and then return home. You know how it’s supposed to work, how it works now is dumb. We need to deport a majority and make them going through the proper channels and strengthen border security so millions of people can’t just come back in again

I was in Toronto not that long ago and people there (uber drivers mainly - immigrants themselves) were talking about how the influx of people has been pretty tough for the area. They have built aggressively but the roads and public transit weren't built with this number of people in mind.

none of that narrative is real canadian population growth is quite stable. they just hate brown people so it's the wrong type of people and brown people are being scapegoated for massive under investment in housing, ineffectiveness of the federal government/CMHC at deploying funds or policies and generally ■■■■■■■■■■■ at all levels of government. at the end of the day urban homeowners are winning because they've all become millionaires for doing nothing and will fight tooth and nail to keep their ill-gotten gains and will use any nimby tools at their disposal to effectively limit development or densification in urban areas.
