I did that the first time it was suggested and the forum became just jdance talking to ghosts.
The only serious suggestion I will make is encouraging political discussion stay where it belongs. I think that is reasonable. You can just tell people to try and talk about it in the thread it belongs in. You know, moderate the forum. Sorry if that is asking a lot. I know the official moderation policy is to not moderate but you might want to give it a try.
We’re at an impasse because while we can offer all these solutions to avoiding politics posting; like blocking certain users, or just post in lounge where there’s really not a whole lot of politics posting, or don’t enter politics adjacent threads; but you won’t be satisfied. There are bad actors but at the end of the day politics are fucked right now and it permeates every facet of our lives and outright banning political discussion is not something that’s going to happen.
Ultimately plasma is catching chain bans when he is properly reported and the amount of politics exiting the containment thread is low despite your past efforts to ruin what we have going. The majority of people aren’t laying political landmines all over the forum. Maybe don’t create or enter meta threads based around the existence of a politics thread.
We live in a world where we are all empowered to evaluate our circumstances and make decisions that serve ourselves in the best way. Sometimes when you feel you aren’t being heard, the only option is to stop asking to be listened to and peace out for a bit. Or you can accept that your preferences aren’t the preferences of the other dozen people who post here, for reasons outlined over and over and over, and figure it out.
All you gotta do is say “please keep politics posting in the politics thread” and it will be meaningful because you are a mod. It would take even less effort than typing that or telling me to block people.
If we just like it this way then sure ignore me who cares but don’t pretend like this is asking more than a mod to type a sentence and mean it.
Look, I just think it's selfish to think that everyone thinks the way you do about it. For starters, let's talk about peopel posting on topic in a thread. Nobody does it. I have given up trying.
Now let's talk about people posting about politics. Everybody does it. Everyone has signalled wanting to do it, and being receptive to the posts on it. You ironically do it too when we talk about Japan and politics out of the thread, but I appreciate those posts and am the one asking for them. I'd appreciate them either way though.
Now lets talk about both. Are they the same? Maybe situationally, but generally, at this point -- I don't think so. It feels like politics is ironically unfortunately mega related to everyones lives here in our home country. Don't like it? Maybe you're insulated from it or think you are.
But it affects peoples lives and they blog about it in the blog thread. It affects programming and I do it in my dumb thread. It affects "Gambling" and makes sense to be discussed there too. Where do we draw the line? Are we going to draw a line fairly? Can you blame people for feeling politically charged? Can you not just like mute or flag the 3 guys you disagree with?
Are we really gonna allow ourselves to be essentially mentally trumped by a quail farmer t## esports owner crane operator on a forum. Does he provide any therapy as a punching bag or laugh generator to others in a way that maybe it just doesn’t for you? Would removing him then be as net positive as you imagine just because it appeals to you? Isn’t that narcissistic to think everyone sees it that way?
We can get even meme-ier from there too. Like Is it really so disruptive to everyone in a way that can’t be mitigated besides total force and absolution? Do you support totalitarianism or fascism as a means to an end ideologically as a form of government? Because you’re essentially asking as much from our lil forum government.
Plus the level of irony in being anywhere similar in ideology to the guy who has issues with other people in his zone and wants to use force to remove them or control how they behave (but has poorer qualifiers obviously).
Many levels to this bullshit. nearly infinite if you are schizo like me
Please don't have a negative reaction to the above posts Im just giving you a solid answer because I don't want you to think I'm ignoring you.
But to divert for a second while staying on the topic of not stopping talking about politics -- here is the last 20 mins of posts from that thread you refuse to browse + the normal post that kicked it off.
Huh. that's weird i thought they'd be discussing race science it's almost like it's not as bad as the things that stood out to you in the first place. It's like not even political even if It's not very positive. But I feel like thats life, thats politics, and thats also namafia to some degree. Sometimes things are rough. People just talk about what they want to talk about, what they don't like, and none of the staff are paid or unemployed enough to deal with it beyond handling your flags and processing really bad posts or handling more explicit qualms of that nature (even that is asking a lot for what is basically a volunteer org)
It just feels like to me, to expect otherwise (people to really want this, people to be happy with this, and people to handle things for you) is to want a false reality. Continuing to push for it and being demanding or threatening things for it is to force it on others, including you, to me. I just wanna keep this place real and also keep offering a place for people to go when they wanna disconnect from their lives for a minute. I do think trying to be really punitive threatens the latter, and risks the former
heres the thing, while putting a no political discussion outside the politics thread would be good for you to not read from the 2 or 3 posters you dont like, the other 8 or 9 posters who you do like I would purposely apply the same rules to and it would cause half the forum to get upset
like if anyone complained about anything republicans are doing, or made any posts about anything I deemed political, outside the politics thread, I would warn them equally. I think the system we have now is perfectly fine.
