"virtue signaling" might be too cynical when it's often meant with good intentions / a sentiment of "idk what else to say but i want to express sympathy" but it does feel obligatory and empty

i like the casual feel of "sucks, hope things get better" but thats just an aesthetic preference for the same sentiment and i dont view any particular form of that sentiment as inherently more disingenuous or anything

if im gonna be nitpicky, i think it covers plenty of people who dont do the shit they consider fake and just simply assume it to be fake or done for ulterior reasons when it's not necessarily coming from a fake place
and i mean corporate greenwashing / pr bullshit is an example of it actually applying meaningfully
though some corporate greenwashing comes with good acts that are helpful and it's still not necessarily a bad thing that they do it or consider it a good thing to do blah blah
