This is something that we, as Americans, have emblazoned deep in our souls. It’s not okay to give someone like LBJ 3/5ths of a vote. This is something we learned through a series of trials & errors up to today and it is an important part of our national identity.

it was never voting rights on the individual level it was counting population for the purpose of number of house of reps members. the south wanted slaves to count so they’d have more representatives in the house (which is proportional to population and also a factor in the electoral college presidential voting system).
the north wanted slaves to not count because why should your property add to your representation dumbass southerners
