In My Life, Clinton wrote that Arafat once complimented Clinton by telling him, "You are a great man." Clinton responded, "I am not a great man. I am a failure, and you made me one."
One of the comments said this is Shalit x100 so I had to look it up for context, and itās interesting that this was referring to a hostage deal done in 2011 where a single IDF soldier was traded for over 1000 prisoners one of which was Yahya Sinwar, the guy who planned the Oct 7th attack.
Looking back, I wonder if people knew what would happen after, if theyād have just let the IDF soldier die instead and not give in, maybe that would have prevented Oct 7, but you can argue something similar would have eventually happened. Maybe. Understanding that context, I wonder if Isreal is going to agree to the prisoner exchange. Of course if they donāt, and continue fighting the blame goes on Israel for not wanting peace etc⦠etc⦠but letās say 5-10 years later if suicide bombings start happening again, are people going to forget about the deal that was done?
