would a person need to download some thing / buy dlc in advance in order to play this

iirc last time i tried to play tts i got really mad because it said "chess" but it was actually just a physics simulator with chess pieces and the last person to play had just dropped all the pieces on the floor

and in order to play catan you had to buy and dl the add-on for it

Almost all the games on TTS are free. They are fan-based copies with slightly different names and artwork to avoid lawsuits..
Jackbox games are free for the players but the host has to own the game.
