Welcome to The Taylor Series.

The Town attempted to observe the state of @ian, The Polynomial this morning, expecting to find a curve of growing potential. Unfortunately, this observation returned a null value. His wave function has collapsed. No longer existing in a superposition of "protector" and "threat," he has been forced into a state of non-existence, relegated to the complement of the set.

Game Information In this space, reality is defined by the precision of an equation. For most, the world is a series of Constants—reliable, fixed, and predictable. But a disturbance has emerged in the local neighborhood. Two Variables have entered the set, and they do not intend to remain unknown.

These Variables are not just shifting; they are hungry for definition. They seek to differentiate the Town, harvesting your unique properties to scale their own power. If the equation remains unsolved, the Variables will converge, and the Town will be reduced to an empty set.

You must find the Derivative of their lies. You must find the Limit of their reach. Solve for (x,y) before the system diverges into ENTROPY.

The Role List

The Mafia (2 Variables)

Role: The Variable (x & y) “You are an unknown, a value that shifts and scales. Your goal is to accumulate enough power to dominate the equation.”

  • Shared Night Action: Each night, the Mafia team may perform one action. You must choose:
    • Analysis (Steal): Target a player to "Differentiate." If they have a power, you steal it permanently. They become a Constant. This is a Quiet action (50% detection by a Watcher).
    • Divergence (Kill): Target a player for elimination. This is a Loud action (100% detection by Watcher).
    • Any stolen Differentiated Power.
  • Succession: If your partner is lynched, you inherit any powers they have already stolen.
  • Win Condition: Reach Parity (Mafia numbers = Living Town numbers).
Town Power Roles (4 Players)

Role: The Derivative (f') “You find the rate of change. You see through the masks to find the true nature of the variables.”

  • Town Version: Evaluate: Once per night, target a player to learn if they are a Variable or a Constant.
  • Derived Version: Search Engine Investigate a player to reveal their exact role name (e.g., "The Limit") instead of just "Constant/Town."

Role: The Integral (∫) “You find the area under the curve, creating a bounded space where no harm can occur.”

  • Town Version: Bound: Protect a target from Divergence (Kill). Does not stop Analysis (Stealing). Cannot target self.
  • Derived Version Smoothing: Choose a player (yourself or your partner). They will appear as a Constant to any Derivative scans for that night.

Role: The Limit (lim) “You watch the behavior as x approaches a point. Nothing moves without you noticing.”

  • Town Version: Observe: See who visited a player. Kills are 100% detectable; Steals are 50% detectable.
  • Derived Version: Trace: See who visited the Mafia team (you or your partner) that night. This helps detect the Derivative or a Limit trying to track you.

Role: The Polynomial (xⁿ) “Your power grows with every degree. You have the strength to force a result.”

  • Diverge (Kill): A one-time use Vigilante kill shot. Usable only at night.
Passive Roles (4 Players)

Role: The Imaginary Number (i) “You exist on an axis the Variables cannot see.”

  • Complex Trap: Immune to Stealing. If a Variable tries to steal your power, they are silenced and unable to act for the following night. (You die normally to Kills/Lynches).

Role: The Constant (+C) (x3) “You are the fixed point that keeps the equation grounded.”

  • Abilities: Vanilla Town. No night actions. Your power lies in your vote.
Order of Operations

ORDER OF OPERATIONS

To ensure the logic remains consistent, all night actions resolve in this specific sequence:

  1. The Imaginary Number (i) Check for failed Steals on the Trap.
  2. The Integral (∫) Apply shields against Kills.
  3. The Polynomial One time vigilante shot.
  4. Analysis (Steal): Resolve power transfers.
  5. Divergence (Kill): Resolve eliminations.
  6. Investigation (f'): Deliver scan results.
  7. Observation (lim): Deliver Watcher reports.
