i mean i disagreed with a lot of obama's actions in how things we're executed but a president can only do so much and at least the man was graceful and composed. trump is like a meth head punching walls because you won't buy him a pack of smokes
To be fair, Trump isn't even responsible for the biggest things to suppress voting. That's all SCOTUS. We love Shelby County v. Holder, don't we folks?
The entire Republican strategy for the past 30 years has been voter suppression. And they've been wildly successful with it. Gerrymandering, closing polling stations in predominantly Black precincts so there are 4 hour lines, the shit with Florida allowing felons to vote contingent on them paying their fines then making it literally impossible for them to find out how much they owe or if they've paid it off. It's an endless parade of literal Kafka bullshit, not just Kafka-esque
Technology has allowed for so much garbage to proliferate the airwaves where the signal-to-noise ratio is off the charts.
I think people feel the need to participate in this race to the bottom to try and drown out the Feathered Cocaine of the world.
American voters (see @REFPSI) are like mindless crops that have to be tended to, nurtured and given the correct stimulus to reach the desired outcome. They won't get there on their own because they're too intellectually stunted to do so.
as much as I shit on the average american voter, I really want to somehow force everyone to participate, no idea how that would be enforced maybe withhold tax refunds or something lol
in today's climate where optics is so important idk but it shouldn't be difficult to defeat him intellectually. people are so disenfranchised with politics in america they voted in a trust fund baby that would be wealthier today if he banked his milli his father gave him on 2% interest just because he wasn't a career politician. avoid the quagmire of personal attacks and instead focus on actual progress. sadly biden is just another of the old guard as a product of the two party system, but that's an entirely different problem
"Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected. The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting. Supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting. If the mind is willing, the flesh could go on and on without many things."
looking at this, it's amazing how many cases of similar ilk were brought before the supreme court prior regarding this preclearance requirement
I had always just assumed the states mostly had carte blanche to modify election laws, and that they were just doing it in an easily legally defensible way to keep blacks from voting
I'm sure a lot more would if voting was made accessible. Having to drive an hour to a polling station and wait for another 4 when you have to work to barely survive is the intended effect
people like trump are kind of just a symptom. i don't know too much about politics in general but trump's positions are often hypocritical and incredibly shortsighted but appeal to similar people who are often like to believe strongly enough to vote and feel strong in their convictions, doubly so once they've committed. maybe that's what scares other politicians the most is they have to evolve to beat him instead of providing smoke and mirrors
The recent rulings this summer have been nuts on the "carte blanche" by the states. Shelby County then the one that directly contradicts it about the Wisconsin primary. Anyone who believes the court isn't partisan is such a fucking dipshit
