Coming back to this to derail the thread once more: I agree that programming is a fake science. I write hundreds of lines of C++ code a day but I don't really know what I'm doing and consider it more of a creative arts profession.

I agree with this though. Programming's closest analog is probably something like carpentry. Calling it "Computer Science" is the equivalent of somebody going to school and saying they are studying "Wood Science"
