Looney toons ass racists out here smfh
Vivek is a moron. Another guy famous from twitter and not much else and he doesn't have much useful/insightful to say because the great thoughts of our generation are not written in 140 characters or less.
The great thinkers of our generation are not on Twitter. They are in the Voter Thread 2024 thread on NAMafia.
I completely agree with your first paragraph but i also think the twest is based
Also note that i support putting children in slave study camps and forcing them to learn for 12 hours per day
To respond directly to what he said: (although it's a total waste of time - I should be reading a book or something)
American culture is pretty varied and a lot of parts of it are fairly consistent with what he's describing as his hypothetical STEM-oriented culture (which he seems to think exists only overseas)
What is actually happening with high-skill/educated immigration is that these visas allow employers to employ people under conditions americans wouldn't accept
High-performing americans have better options, they go to IBs or big tech where they have a private chef preparing snacktime for them and special designated jerkoff rooms
The rest of Vivek's post essentially amounts to racism. If I said the same thing about black people ("no blacks in high-status roles because they are all watching TV shows that pedestalize brain-damaged football players instead of scrawny nerdy guys like me") it would be dismissed immediately as moronic.
This is the type of "analytical thought/worldview" that can only exist on Twitter - it doesn't survive contact with the real world. All it takes is to go out and meet/get to know like two people from any of these groups to know that culture is not monolithic, people have widely different experiences in upbringing and can't be generalized even across smaller subgroups than the one being looked at here. And Indians hire other Indians due to subtle (or not-so-subtle) racial bias and because they can treat them worse and pay them less than Americans - Vivek is no exception.
Dont care about the substance of the post - i simply think we should stick children into soviet style schools
I agree with this too but in a different way. You have to engage children and teach them that what they are doing is fun and interesting. You have to find ways to get them to want to spend 12 hours per day learning - otherwise when they graduate from slave camp what they will want to do is go watch TV, even if they are highly educated.
I think all these things are basically my upbringing. We didn't have TV. I was slapped around some in this forced learning regime. And the big failures were in understanding that you need to fuel curiosity and intellectual engagement - humans are not machines. There comes an age where it doesn't matter how good we are at STEM if we don't want to do STEM.
I wonder if there are any lessons from history that would help us to extrapolate how this would work out
We should force the posters of this website to spend 12 hours a day playing Mafia.
Im just happy youre being normal again
It doesnt need to be fun. We just need to be working toward some sort of societal goal that is instilled and propogandized since childhood.
I'm not being normal you're being normal
I agree that there's no cultural goal (like the whole space age & needing to beat the soviets to the moon, which inspired a generation of kids (before us) to be interested in science - or the brief period where chess clubs were a thing and Bobby Fischer was a big celebrity)
But I don't think Vivek talking about TV shows and stuff has much to do with it. Do Indians have a big cultural goal?
The way I view it is that you need somebody at the helm with a real vision. Somebody who wants to unite the country to actually do something. Out of all the candidates who have reached the presidential stage (to cut out Bernie), Trump is the one who has actually gotten the closest to that. This is honestly a Trump/Elon position - despite them being scammers and brain-dead and all this stuff, they are actually doing something on this front. Maybe we should credit it to Thiel originally.
Idk just think we should all read From Third World to First and then come back and discuss. Maybe when this is all done one of us can write From First World to Third about the US.
I guess another way to put this is that if you reduce vivek's cultural argument / squint at it enough, you end up at something true, but at that point you may as well pick one of the many other people saying it who said it better or said it first (Thiel).
Bottom line is Vivek's a Twitter moron.
You dont need to Squint you are Asian
Mind you trump wants to defund education and elon tweeted earlier that college is worthless
Pretty insane viewpoint for you to have
